First of all, good morning to you beautiful hooman bean! I hope your week starts of well, and just in case you engage with this blog much later into the week, I hope that your week has been amazing so far. Today's conversation is touching on the heart of why we worship.
We don't worship to somehow attain God's presence, rather we worship because of His presence. His presence has attained us. Kevin Burgess (KB)
From the video shared by KB as he speaks on why we worship, it is beautiful how he points to the way fact that David wrote in the psalms, pointing us to the fact that God is always present with us. God's presence being with us, not just in mere face but as a standard reality, is enough for us to understand how we can access him. I actually appreciate the phrasing that KB put, which is, "We don't worship to somehow attain God's presence, rather we worship because of His presence. His presence has attained us. This distinctly takes the weight off of feeling in worship and teaches our souls to commune with God in a mature way, that recognizes the truth that David wrote in the psalms before, God is present, always."
And really, with the reminder from the book of Psalms, we see David's expression in joy, in pain, in grief, in wonder and so much, but the one thing that is constant is his heart and pursuit of God. He does not speak of God as though he is light-years away but speaks to and expresses himself to one who is presently there with him, in all moments.
One of the things I am grateful for is that in the new dispensation, after the death of Christ, we got to experience the privilege of having a helper, the Holy Spirit of God indwelling in us. It is a beautiful truth to come to terms with, as we stop seeing our relationship and access with God as something that needs a middleman for us to talk to God, but through the Holy Spirit of God & Christ himself, we have direct access to the Father.
So going back to the original thought of this conversation, why we worship. We do not worship God to be able to access things we need. Worship is not exactly a transaction we are looking to do, but more of a submission to God with our whole being. We just give ourselves to him as God, in thanksgiving, in songs of praise and worship - giving him the Glory for just being God. He is enough for us. Therefore, the reality of having God's presence with us ALWAYS, give us the mandate to fellowship with him whenever and to have a posture of worship anywhere we are at whatever time, because now - that we have access to God - we are not limited to a specific institution or building or dependent on any middleman to access the Father. He is presently with us. And isn't it such a joy to be present with him and to want to know him more, and just dwell in his presence?
Take a moment and reflect on the effect of God's presence in your life. If you think you may not have been as vigilant in taking time with the Lord to fellowship with Him, this is your moment to go to him and ask him to reveal more to you about his presence in your life and how to fellowship with him. Don't forget to read your bible from time to time.
You are blessed and highly favoured of God! You have the privilege of being called a child of God, so go into the week with that in mind and flourish in all you do. Wishing you all a beautiful, fun, and eventful week ahead. Same time next week lovely hooman beans!
